Watch USA vs Finland big live stream FREE on Reddit match for today on 6 PM ET: It’s a rematch of last year’s gold-medal game as Team Canada takes on Team Russia in the 2021 World Juniors Hockey Championship semifinals. The Canadians have run the table, collecting five straight wins, and also blanked the Russians 1-0 in an exhibition game two weeks ago. Team Canada has looked impenetrable at even strength, having yet to yield an even-strength goal through 18 periods of competition. If the Canucks can stay out of the box (all Canadian referees), the Russians will struggle to put up goals, something that hasn’t come easy to them this year. Team Russia only managed two goals in the quarterfinals against a German team that had allowed 28 goals in its four round-robin games. Normally known for its offensive game, Team Russia has scored 18 goals in six games and lost 2-0 to a Czech Republic Team that was blanked by the Canadians 3-0 on Saturday. Dylan Cozens opened the scoring, taking a chip pass from Connor McMichael and beating Nick Malik, the son of ex-NHLer Marek Malik, for his tournament-leading seventh goal. The Sabres prospect added an assist to take his point total to 13 in 2021; he’s second behind the United States’ Trevor Zegras. Between the 2020 and 2021 editions, he now has 22 points and is in sole possession of sixth place all-time among Canadians in World Juniors play. Each of the last two tournaments it was the Finns that sent the Americans home without the ultimate prize of a gold medal: 2020 was in the quarterfinals and 2019 in the gold-medal game. Eight players return for Team USA from last year and one, goaltender Spencer Knight, who is expected to be in net for the U.S., was on the team for both tournaments. This one will be another battle between two evenly matched teams with soon-to-be NHLers littering the roster. The one thing that could give the Americans the advantage is that Finland is one of the most penalized teams in the tournament and the U.S. has the most efficient power play (8-for-19). These two teams did meet up in a pre-tournament tune-up that saw the Americans win 3-2 backed by two Cole Caufield goals but now it's go-time. "I remember it was both of our first games coming into the tournament, and both teams were getting a feel for each other," said defenseman Ryan Johnson after the U.S. advanced with a quarterfinal win over the Slovaks. "I think both teams have progressed. Watching Finland they look a lot better but, same with us as well. I think it'll be a good matchup." Here's how to watch the United States and Finland go toe-to-toe with a spot in the gold-medal game on the line. Team USA will have revenge on its mind when they take on Team Finland in the semifinals of the 2021 World Juniors on Monday, January 4th in Edmonton. You can watch the game at 9:30pm ET on the NHL Network. The Americans were eliminated in the quarterfinals by the Finns last season, but they can punch their ticket to the gold medal game with a victory this time around. They’re being listed as -235 favorites ahead of puck drop. Are the Finns capable of pulling off another upset? Team USA is off to the World Juniors semifinal after defeating Slovakia 5-2 in the quarterfinals. Arthur Kaliyev and Cole Caufield both scored on the power play, while Trevor Zegras and Bobby Brink contributed a pair of assists. Goalie Spencer Knight stopped 16 shots. The Americans were clearly the better team in the quarterfinal, but the Slovaks stuck around and were down by only one goal midway through the third period. There isn’t much reason for concern, however, as the Americans put 43 shots on goal and were stymied by a heroic performance from Slovak goaltender Simon Latkoczy. Team Finland will be looking to eliminate the Americans for a second consecutive year after punching their ticket to the semifinal Saturday. The Finns took down the Swedes in the quarterfinals by a 3-2 score, thanks to a late goal by Maple Leafs’ prospect Roni Hirvonen . Finland hasn’t been as impressive as Team USA throughout this tournament, but they’re no strangers to winning big games as the underdog. They beat the Americans 1-0 in the quarterfinals last year and also took them down in the 2019 gold medal game. The United States and Russia are in Group B for the preliminary round, along with Sweden, Austria and the Czech Republic. After opening against Russia (9:30 p.m. ET), the United States will play Austria on Dec. 26 (9:30 p.m. ET), the Czech Republic on Dec. 29 (2 p.m. ET), and Sweden on Dec. 31 (9:30 p.m. ET). The United States placed sixth at the 2020 WJC in the Czech Republic. [NHL Network 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship Live Game Schedule] USA, the 2020 tournament winner, is in Group A, along with USA, Switzerland, Slovakia and Austria. USA plays its first game of the tournament against Austria on Dec. 26 (6 p.m. ET). It then plays Slovakia on Dec. 27 (6 p.m. ET), Switzerland on Dec. 29 (6 p.m. ET), and USA on Dec. 31 (6 p.m. ET). The top four teams in each group will play in the quarterfinals Jan. 2. The semifinals are Jan. 4, and the championship and third-place games are Jan. 5. Because the IIHF announced the cancelation of five lower-level under-20 tournaments, there will be no relegation or promotion from the 2021 WJC. “A tremendous amount of planning has been underway for almost two years and announcing the schedule signifies how close we are to puck drop,” said Riley Wiwchar, executive director of the 2021 WJC organizing committee. “After announcing the return of the tournament last month, there is a feeling, even knowing there won’t be fans in the building, of excitement and anticipation across the province and extending across the country as fans get set to cheer on the future stars of the game.”
